Doomsday budget still a concern

The impact of this Doomsday budget on our clients, families and staff will be substantial:

  • AID services for more than 1,100 AID clients will stop at day’s end on June 30, 2009
  • 10 AID programs will close effective July 1st: Early Intervention, Respite, Regular Work, Supported Living, DD Case Management, Indian Trail Supervised Living, Psychiatric Services, Psychosocial Rehab, Homeless Youth and Alcohol and Substance Abuse Case Management
  • 5 programs will be cut by 15-50% effective July 1st: Vocational Development (job coaching and employment), Mental Health Supported and Supervised Living, Crisis Intervention, and closure of 1 CILA home for persons with Developmental Disabilities
  • 65 AID staff positions and 6 contract psychiatrists will have to be eliminated effective July1st
  • Respite staff hired by families (about 200) will no longer have jobs

More cuts may be needed. Please help AID in this critical time by contacting your state legislators or with a donation of any size.

PLEASE help us reverse these cuts! please thank these legislators: Senator Michael Noland (Elgin) and Representative Linda Chapa LaVia (Aurora).  We need to urge the rest of our elected officials to find a solution to fully fund services and prevent the Doomsday cuts!

Scarves for South Street Project

picWe are asking talented souls to knit and/or crochet scarves. The scarves will be collected at our Elgin facility through the end of summer and then sold at AID facilities, on our web page and hopefully through community events when the cooler weather returns in the fall. We are also looking into working with a local business to sell the scarves. All proceeds will benefit the renovation work for Bethany House. The response so far has been very encouraging.
